Jesus and his 2 Crucifixions

It took me a long time in my youth to understand why was Jesus crucified twice… once on Palm Sunday (last Sunday) and once more on Good Friday… Coming back to life after one death, it is a miracle, but after two deaths…?!
Seriously, Jesus was crucified on Good Friday of course, but since a majority of parishioners was not coming to the celebrations of Good Friday, the Roman catholic Church decided that, if you do not come to Rome, Rome will come to you… and so the crucifixion was added to the program of Palm Sunday, before Good Friday and Easter Sunday. And so the parishioners who are coming to the celebrations of Good Friday are treated with a repetition of the reading, although the celebration on Good Friday is far more moving and recommended to all Christians in the Village.

This decision to add the reading of the crucifixion to the reading of the entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday creates two problems…
- it does not push Catholics to come and participate in the Good Friday celebration, shame…
- it reduces the joy of seeing Jesus enter Jerusalem to about five minutes, at the beginning of the Palm Sunday celebration.

Almost all the sermons I have heard on that day have been about the crucifixion of Jesus, as it is hard to talk about anything else that the sacrifice of Jesus after you have read for 20 minutes how he was arrested, judged and crucified. So on Palm Sunday, usually very little in the sermon (even in the first sermon at the entrance) about the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem, what he was planning to do, like bring peace to Jerusalem and his brothers Jews, even if he had to upset the religious authorities and the country leaders…
Rather up to date, no…? for 20 centuries…?! One could write quite a few sermons on the subject…
Oh well… and furthermore Palm Sunday is also the Sunday for celebrating the Youth in the Village… so talking about Peace and Youth, quite a program already for a single Sunday, without adding the crucifixion of Jesus…!

I recommend to Pope Francis not to celebrate anymore in the same mass the entry into Jerusalem and the crucifixion. He can move Palm Sunday two weeks ahead of Easter, or more simply keep the reading of the crucifixion for Good Friday. Your choice, little brother Francis…
