L'echarpe et le voile / The scarf and the veil

Une université française a demandé à toutes les étudiantes qui le souhaitaient, de porter une écharpe sur la tete, hier, pour la journée, pour montrer que la presence d'une telle écharpe sur la tete n'est pas un signe de soumission ou d'exclusion.

Je suis d'accord avec cette initiative, ma grand mere ne sortait jamais sans son écharpe sur la tete. Pareil pour Marie, la mere de Jesus dont vous ne verrez jamais une statue ou une image avec sa tete découverte.
Mais j'aurais également rajouté pour le lendemain une initiative pour demander a toutes les étudiantes de venir sans écharpe sur la tete, pour mieux souligner que cette coutume n'est pas asservissante pour la femme, et qu'il s'agit simplement d'un choix personnel culturel.

Je préfére dire l’écharpe, et réserver le mot "voile" au voile sur le visage qui ne laisse voir que les yeux, et qui devrait être interdit dans tout espace public dans tous les pays laïques modernes.

A French University asked all student ladies to wear a scarf on their head for one day, yesterday, to show that the presence of such a scarf on the head is not a sign of submission or of exclusion.
I agree with this initiative, my brandmother never went out without a scarf on her head. Same for the Marie, the mother of Jesus, you will never see a statue or a picture of her with her head uncovered.
But I would have added for the day after an initiative asking all student ladies to come without any scarf on their head, to better underline that this usage is not imposed to a woman, and it is only a cultural choice.

I prefer to call it a scarf, and to keep the word "veil" for the the veil which covers the face letting only the eyes not covered, and which should be banned from public places in all the secular modern countries.
